This Roman temple, called the Temple of Vesta, sits on the grounds of the Villa Gregoriana in Tivoli Italy. After spending a couple of hours walking through the grounds of the villa and viewing all the natural beauty and the spectacular waterfalls, I exited past this temple. The contrast between the natural beauty and the temple situated next to the restaurant and gift shop was so striking that it almost seemed as if the temple were a fake! My apologies to historians and archeologists! The temple and the villa have such vastly different histories and so seem a bit of a mismatch, united only by coincidental proximity. Tivoli was a popular residential and resort town for the ancient Romans, who constructed two temples on the brink of a steep valley overlooking the falls of the Aniene River.
