Wind and water erosion in the slot canyons of Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument gradually cause these tree roots to become exposed in a fascinating tangle. One can only imagine the battle between the tree and erosion forces going on through the ages. With every bit of erosion, the tree digs in deeper. Maybe that is a lesson for us today! Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument (between Santa Fe and Albuquerque NM) used to be a little-known BLM site but has become a very popular hiking location since becoming a National Monument in 2001.
