One of the most beloved and recognizable landmarks in Fort Worth TX is the Will Rogers Memorial Center, with the Pioneer Tower gracing the skyline and the horseback statue of Will Rogers in the foreground. The Will Rogers Coliseum was erected along with the auditorium and the 208' landmark Pioneer Tower in 1936, the year of the Texas Centennial. The structure is designed using a combination of classical revival and moderne styles. The tower features a limestone base with a brick shaft. The corners are accentuated with stepped piers and an aluminum cap tops the tower. On the top of each pier is an internally illuminated lantern with the top of the tower accentuated by a bright beacon. The statue of Will Rogers is surrounded by native landscaping and was featured in the January 23, 1950 issue of Life magazine. At the time, it was called Fort Worth's most photographed object!
