Description
For a photographer, there is an endless fascination with night photography at the Szechenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest Hungary. It is simply put, spectacular! And its beautiful bright night lighting gives so many photographic opportunities. The problem is…you just never get enough! The Chain Bridge is part of the UNESCO World Heritage area in Budapest that includes bridges and historic buildings all along the banks of the Danube River. Before sunset, you can watch the sun set over Buda Castle and the light fall. Then in one great synchronized movement soon after official sunset, the lights on the bridges and historic buildings come on all at once! As it gets darker and darker, the splendor is even more evident. You don't want to leave because every minute seems different from the minute before. As historic and iconic as the Chain Bridge in Budapest Hungary is, it serves a vital traffic role from morning till night. Cars, trucks, buses, and pedestrians are constantly crossing the bridge over the Danube River. The Chain Bridge was built in 1849 and was the first permanent stone-bridge connecting Pest and Buda. It was only the second permanent crossing on the whole length of the River Danube. In World War II, the bridge was blown up on 18 January 1945 by the retreating Germans during the Siege of Budapest, with only the towers remaining. It was rebuilt, and it reopened in 1949. It is one of the symbolic buildings of Budapest, the most widely known bridge of the Hungarian capital.
