Description
East of the skyscrapers of Dallas TX is the funky community of Deep Ellum. Originally named Deep Elm, but became Deep Ellum due to the residents pronunciation of their own neighborhood. It is an historically significant neighborhood in Dallas as it was one of Dallas' first commercial districts for African-Americans and European immigrants. According to the Deep Ellum facebook page, "The district boasts the city's largest collection of commercial storefronts from the early 20th century and includes many individual structures significant in their own right". Deep Ellum is also famed as a music scene, a hotbed for early jazz and blues musicians. Through economic ups and downs, it remains an entertainment district in Dallas today.
