Like most photographers, I eagerly anticipated my visit to ‘Diamond Beach’ along the South Coast of Iceland. Here, icebergs which break off the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier into the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, float down a short river and out to sea, and are then pummeled by the waves and washed back up onto the black sand beach. It’s the perfect place for some long exposure photography. However, our guide went a bit overboard in warning us of the dangers….getting knocked over by waves and losing your camera…so that I was a bit petrified before we got there. However, it turned out to be the most fun you can have while wearing Wellingtons duct-taped to your snow pants. Watch the waves, find the perfect set of ice chunks for a good photo, watch the waves, try to level your camera and tripod as the waves wash the sand out from underneath the tripod feet, watch the waves.
