My first jet-lagged afternoon in Paris, I decided to first walk around the Eiffel Tower since it was easy to get to on the metro from where I was staying. I ended up staying there for hours! I had a fascination at the enormity of the structure, especially when compared to everything that surrounds it. It's not only enormous, it's an architectural marvel and a work of art. Approaching the Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero, you cross over to the Left Bank via the Pont d'lena (Jena Bridge) one of the many beautiful bridges in Paris. In 1807, Napoleon I ordered the construction of a bridge overlooking the Military School, and named the bridge after his victory in 1806 at the Battle of Jena. It was not the same bridge we see today. Over time several Universal Exhibitions were held in Paris and there was a need for the original bridge to be widened, which it was in 1937. The bridge was added to the French registry of historic monuments in 1975.

Protected with PIXSY About Joan Carroll: I am a Fort Worth Texas-based outdoor photographer who feels at home while on the road...in Texas, in the US, around the world. My photographic goal is to travel the world in a curious yet respectful way, taking the time to see and understand the unique story of each place I visit. In every place, light, mood, color, and...
