Description
During our visit to Cuba, we were scheduled to visit the Rafael Trejo Boxing Gym in Old Havana. However, some heavy rains in the morning threatened to derail our plans. Which is understandable since this gym is an open-air training facility! But after the rain, the athletes slowly started arriving. This was the only female boxer training on this day and she definitely had ATTITUDE! She could probably win a match just with her stare. The gym is snuggled between two three-story apartment buildings on a small side street. Walking inside you discover an open area with a single well-worn boxing ring in the middle of the courtyard. On the two opposite sides of the enclave lie modest bleachers for the spectators. Cuba has a very proud tradition of boxers and boxing excellence, which makes this facility all the more impressive.
