Description
When I was reading about the Cathedral in Granada Spain, I read that the interior was painted white and that it was "cool, spacious and bright". But that doesn't begin to describe the blinding whiteness of the interior! It is shockingly white and bright! If you have been to any European cathedral, you are used to the ornate but usually dark interiors. Sometimes the darkness is alleviated with light from windows. But this is different. It's white. WHITE WHITE WHITE! I actually did a double take when I first walked in, it was so bright. Apparently this was done first in the 18th century when the bishop order the interior painted with lime (for hygienic reasons during a time of disease). The people liked it so it stayed white. This cathedral is one of only two Renaissance churches in Spain, and is the 2nd largest church in Spain after the one in Sevilla. It was started as Gothic, built with Renaissance elements, finished in Baroque style.
