Description
THIS is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful sights in Budapest, the Hungarian Parliament Building sitting on the Pest side of the Danube in Budapest Hungary. This was also one of the sights I most wanted to photograph. On this day, sunset was about 6:20 pm so I arrived about an hour earlier to catch the fading light, but more importantly, to find a place where I could photograph the building dead center! The building was lovely as the light faded and I was rewarded for my early arrival! I stayed for over 2 hrs making photographs as the light faded and the nighttime magic began. Other photographers came after I did, and left before I did. I had a hard time leaving this sight, thinking that every moment was more beautiful than the last. It was probably good that I was on my own since anyone else would have gotten very bored as I got "just one more shot"! The Hungarian Parliament Building is the seat of the National Assembly of Hungary, one of Europe's oldest legislative buildings, a notable landmark of Hungary and a popular tourist destination of Budapest. It lies in Lajos Kossuth Square, on the east bank of the Danube. It is currently the largest building in Hungary and still the tallest building in Budapest. The Parliament Building is in the Gothic Revival style; it has a symmetrical facade and a central dome. The dome is Renaissance Revival architecture. It is 268 m (879 ft) long and 123 m (404 ft) wide. Its interior includes 10 courtyards, 13 passenger and freight elevators, 27 gates, 29 staircases and 691 rooms (including more than 200 offices). With its height of 96 m (315 ft), it is one of the two tallest buildings in Budapest, along with Saint Stephen's Basilica. The number 96 refers to the nation's millennium, 1896, and the conquest of the later Kingdom of Hungary in 896. The Parliament Building is part of the UNESCO World Site which encompasses a large part of both banks of the Danube River in Budapest.

Fantastic capture, Joan. Detail and color is outstanding. I enjoyed your description and I would have stayed for 2 hours also to capture the changing light.
