Description
History collides with modernity. What is currently the Madrid City Hall (Cybele Palace) was looks like and old cathedral and was built just over a century ago, in 1909. In 2016, it sports a banner reading 'Refugees Welcome'. Tourists often forget that 'real life' happens in the places that they visit, but the banner posted on the Madrid City Hall was a stark reminder not only of daily life but of larger political and social issues in the world. That aside, this is the view from the rooftop of the Circulo de Bellas Artes Building. Over the years the palace and the Cibeles fountain in front have become symbolic monuments of the city. From being postal service headquarters, to being the home of the Postal and Telegraphic Museum until 2007, to being Madrid City Hall. Previously called the Palace of Communication, but currently named the Cybele Palace (Palacio de Cibeles). It is located on the Plaza de Cibeles in Madrid, Spain.
