Description
While it seems grand enough to be a main entrance, this is only a secondary gate in Changgyeonggung (palace) in Seoul, South Korea. It is called Myeongjeongmun, and is the second gate you come to in the palace complex. Like the other major palaces in Seoul, Changgyeonggung unfolds slowly for the visitor. First you pass through the main gate of the walled complex. In this palace the main gate is called Honghwamun. Beyond this gate is the Okcheongyo bridge. All palaces of the Joseon Dynasty have ponds with an arch bridge over them, just like Okcheon Bridge. Okcheongjo Bridge serves as a symbolic entry to the courtyard. Okcheongyo Bridge is designated as National Treasure 386.Then there is a second gate, seen here, called Myeongjeongmun. Beyond that you come to the main courtyard and palace building. All the elements of design in the palace compound have symbolic meaning.

Beautiful shot. I also love reading about the history and background of a photo. A little travel episode for the mind, if you will! ;)
