Artist's Description
The day was alternately cloudy and sunny in Toledo Spain, but also very windy so that the cumulus clouds were scudding across the sky. I wanted to capture the beautiful late afternoon light on the face of the Primate Cathedral of Saint Mary of Toledo but as I would press the shutter, the sun would go behind a cloud! I would wait and wait for the next sunny patch and hope that no one was standing right in front of the camera! Finally, after several attempts I was successful! The plaza in front of the cathedral (Plaza de Ayuntamiento) was a busy place, with hoardes of tourists taking a break from their wanderings, having a snack, checking their cell phones, and of course taking selfies. Although this is not the side of the cathedral where you enter, it is considered the main facade. The elaborate portal is known as the Portal of Forgiveness, which was begun in 1418.
