Description
The climb up the bell tower of the cathedral in Toledo is as interesting and scenic as the destination (that is, the bell itself)! I am always up for a good tower climb and this one did not disappoint. There are several times during the climb where you exit the structure to go along outside walkways offering views of the old city and even close up views of the exterior of the cathedral tower itself. A view of the architecture and especially the old slate roofs is something you won't see and cannot appreciate at street level. The old quarter where the cathedral is located is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This quarter is so impressive and interesting and fun to explore because it still has exactly the same layout it had in the Middle Ages. Toledo is a quick 30 minute train ride from Madrid and well worth investing that time during a trip to Madrid.
