Hiking along the sandy trails at Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument can be hot and tiring so any shade is welcome! As is the little trail marker letting you know you aren’t lost yet! The varied structures here are the result of ancient volcanic eruptions and subsequent differential erosion of the different types of rock. Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument (between Santa Fe and Albuquerque NM) used to be a little-known BLM site but has become a very popular hiking location since becoming a National Monument in 2001.
