Description
This is a view that a photographer doesn't always get to take since cruise boats are usually parked here for much of the year. This is Buda Castle, sitting atop the Castle District on the Buda (west) side of Budapest, framed by the iconic Chain Bridge. It would not be entirely accurate to say that I returned to Budapest only to take this photo of Buda Castle and the Chain Bridge, but it wouldn't be that far off! I first visited Budapest in the fall, and one unnamed cruise line which cruises the Danube took up the entire bank of the river at this location with their long boats so that pedestrians and photographers could not get an unobstructed view. Lucky for me, no one wants to go cruising in February so the view was unobstructed when I returned in the late winter! This has to be one of the most beautiful sights in...dare I say it....all of Europe, the UNESCO World Heritage area along the banks of the Danube River in Budapest. Buda Castle is the historical castle and palace complex of the Hungarian kings in Budapest, and was first completed in 1265. The current castle is a post-WWII loose reconstruction of previous versions of the castle. The Szechenyi Chain Bridge is one of the characteristic bridges spanning the River Danube between Buda and Pest and a popular attraction in its own right.

The centrality of the bridge highlights the Danube and at the same time elevates the Castle to prominence in you wonderful image, Joan. Just as I remember it. f/l
