Description
Setting off on a hike from Corniglia to Manaraola in the Cinque Terre region of Italy, this was the last view of the town and the medieval Church of San Pietro (St Peter). It was built in 1334 on a pre-existing XI century building. It has a Baroque style, with some Gothic and Ligurian elements. It is considered one of the most interesting Ligurian Gothic style monuments in the region. The church is dedicated to San Pietro who was the patron saint of Corniglia. Each year on June 29 there is a religious procession through the streets of the village from the Parish of San Pietro to the terrace of Santa Maria. The entire zone of the Cinque Terre is called the Italian Riviera and has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as a national park.
