Description
Reaching Hoffellsjökull glacier in southeastern Iceland was a bit of a challenge on this cloudy day. The weather had been warming and rainy so that that there were deep ruts of slush and ice in which the vehicle nearly got stuck, and also small streams to ford. I was glad I wasn’t driving and happy to arrive at the destination to find such spectacular scenery! Hoffellsjökull is an outlet glacier which flows from the ice cap of Vatnajökull. It was largest around 1890 but due to climate changes, it has retreated a considerable distance.
