Description
One afternoon in Granada Spain I wanted to go to the monastery at Sacromonte, but the driver of the bus that said 'Sacromonte' said he didn't go there. He told me the bus that said 'Albayzin' went there. Or at least that's what I thought he said. My Spanish wasn't good enough to get the fine points. In any case, it didn't make sense to me so I thought I'd wait for the next bus and maybe that driver would be more helpful. But I discovered the buses ran every 20 min. I HATE just standing around waiting on a hot street corner, so despite the fact that Sacromonte was up in the mountains and a steep and sweaty walk I decided to walk. It WAS steep, and it WAS sweaty and it was a blazingly bright day, but I was rewarded by a lovely quiet walk along the main street in Sacromonte. The bright white houses built up along the steep hillsides...the narrow streets...the sense of otherworldliness. I could hardly believe that only 30 minutes walk from where I was there were thousands and thousands of tourists at the Alhambra and wandering the main streets of Granada, all seemingly eating ice cream and gelato. Notice where the yellow lines on the road are, indicating the 'shoulder' of the road...so every time a vehicle goes by, you need to either suck in your belly or try to find someplace with more room! I selected a more artistic processing of the image to emphasize the dreamy quality that the afternoon had for me.
