Description
An unnamed and unused (and probably not much photographed) doorway at Prague castle was a very inviting subject for me! I just loved how the stairs seemed to spread out like a hoop skirt from the doorway. All I needed was less than a second to catch the photo, but that second was hard to come by with the many people walking by! Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world (570 m long, on average 128 m wide, area 7.28 hectares). Constructed in the 9th century by Prince Borivoj, the castle transformed itself from a wooden fortress surrounded by earthen bulwarks to the imposing form it has today. Originally, the castle premises included a palace, three churches and a monastery. Even though the fortification had to face many fires, invasions and even World Wars, it had somehow every time survived and as time passed, it became the symbol and living legend of Prague. It is arguably the most visited and most photographed sight in Prague.
