Description
You can just feel that it is hot on this summer day at the Bastrop County Courthouse in Bastrop Texas. You can picture yourself taking in this scene from the comfort of a hammock! The bees are buzzing, the birds are resting, only mad dogs and photographers go out in the heat of the midday sun. This historic courthouse built in 1883 and added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 20, 1975.It was built after a previous courthouse was burned, which seemed to happen regularly to courthouses of that era! The courthouse is a three-story, stuccoed brick, structure with a copper-domed clock tower in the center of a flat roof. Originally, the building was not stuccoed. The stucco was added in a remodeling in 1924. Also at this time, the dome was lowered and various architectural details were removed giving the building a Neoclassical look.
