Description

Not as famous as its Arizona cousin, Gooseneck State Park in Utah offers an equally stunning view of what is called an ‘incised meander’. The San Juan River twists and turns and carves its way through the meander, flowing a distance of over six miles while advancing only one and a half miles toward Lake Powell ‘as the crow flies’. This carving has uncovered a rock record exposing 300 million years of time, leaving the river 1000 feet below the desert rim.
