Description

This is a pine marten, nature’s most adorable assassin according to one video, and photographed in Yellowstone National Park. Pine martens are a member of the weasel family related to wolverines, badgers, minks and skunks. They have long canine teeth and sharp claws. The claws are semi-retractable which allows them to climb trees as well as run on the ground. They are aggressive predators or squirrels and other small mammals. They might look cute but I think a close up of their face shows an animal more shrewd and calculating rather than cute. Fun fact: a group of pine martens is called a ‘richness’!
