Description
Sometimes getting there really is half the fun! This is the train station in Toledo Spain, the end of the short line (30 min) on the AVE train from Madrid. If you are a photographer, it is worth a few extra minutes on your way into town from the station, or on your way back out of town to have a look at the station itself. The station was designed by architect Narciso Clavera y de Palacios in the Neo-Mudejar style, which is a revival of the architecture influenced by Moorish tast and wowrkmanship of the 12th-16th centuries. The present station opened in 1919 or 1920, replacing the original station. The central section is flanked by two side naves, one of which is adjacent to the clock tower, which imitates the style of Toledo church towers. The station has been declared a Property of Cultural Interest and classified as a monument. It was restored in the twenty-first century in connection with the inauguration of a high-speed service to Madrid in 2005. So spend a few minutes with this treasure and then head on into the old section of Toledo for even more treasures!
