Cities are always rebuilding, always changing. Today’s Fontana dei Leoni (Fountain of Lions) in the Piazza del Popolo in Rome Italy dates only to the early 19th century, replacing a 16th century fountain. Central to the piazza is an obelisk on a stepped base. At each corner of the base, lions sitting atop a stepped pyramidal structure gush out water. You would be forgiven if you happened to miss the find details of the obelisk/fountain structure, since on a sunny day it is a popular place to hang out and you would be hard pressed to find any step unoccupied!
